Beaver management

Humane Solutions is a national thought leader in beaver management. We move beyond trap-and-remove to build programs that are predictable, cost-effective, and ecologically sound — whether you manage a drainage canal, a conservation area, or a working farm.

What we do

How we can help

01

Regional & municipal beaver management

Full-service programs for cities, regional districts, and conservation authorities managing beaver activity across multiple sites. We develop population baselines, zone maps, FCD infrastructure, and multi-year maintenance agreements — so your team isn't responding to the same sites every spring.

02

Industrial & infrastructure mitigation

Long-term mitigation strategies for pipelines, mine tailings ponds, utility corridors, and transportation infrastructure where uncontrolled beaver activity creates real liability. We design site-specific programs that remove the emergency variable and produce documented, defensible outcomes.

03

Emergency beaver response

Rapid-response dam removal, emergency exclusion, and flood mitigation for time-critical situations. We work in areas inaccessible to standard machinery, hold the permits required for regulated waterways, and coordinate with DFO and provincial Conservation Officers when required.

04

Research & monitoring partnerships

Field support, population monitoring, and co-design for university research programs, conservation initiatives, and government wildlife studies. We have active partnerships with First Nations and conservation bodies on relocation methodology, coexistence frameworks, and watershed recovery.

05

Habitat creation & hydrological restoration

Beavers are the most cost-effective wetland engineer on the planet. We design and manage programs that use resident beaver populations to restore degraded riparian habitat, manipulate groundwater tables in drought-affected landscapes, and rebuild wetland function — particularly in partnership with agricultural and conservation landholders.

Common questions

Frequently asked

In most recurring beaver situations, yes. Trapping costs repeat every season; a well-designed FCD installation pays for itself within 1–2 years and typically runs for a decade with minimal maintenance.
